Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) |
Graduate Opportunities
Legal Executives are professionally qualified, specialist lawyers who can also become advocates, partners in law firms and judges.
Law graduates can apply to join ILEX as Associate Members (A.Inst.L.Ex.), and in order to qualify as a Legal Executive lawyer (F.Inst.L.Ex.) they are required to complete the ILEX Graduate 'Fast Track' Diploma and satisfy ILEX's 'qualifying employment' criteria.
The ILEX Graduate 'Fast Track' Diploma requires Level 6 study (Honours Degree level) of two Legal Practice areas and Client Care Skills. Successful completion leads to ILEX Graduate Member status (G.Inst.L.Ex.). The course costs arounds £1,700 over a year of part-time study, which allows for employment whilst studying.
ILEX's 'qualifying employment' criteria require 'five years employment of a legal nature supervised by a qualified lawyer'. Thus, working as a Trainee Legal Executive, paralegal, legal assistant, legal clerk, etc. can count - without the need for a formal 'Training Contract'.
The ILEX route for law graduates is a flexible, less expensive and attractive route to consider.
Please visit the ILEX website for further information.
